Fall semester 2010

Wow!

This semester was a very busy one to say the least. I knew going into this semester in the summer that I would be busy, I just didn't know how much that would be true. I was assigned so many things and I finished many of them. Also, I've learned so much about myself. I learned that I am able to ficus on much more than initially thought possible and that I can actually get a lot of things done. I took 15 credits this semester, kept up with most of my volunteering commitments (I missed 2 of the Urban Peak meal preps), performed all of my assigned duties with SGA and then some, and even took on other designated duties, such as Homecoming, Leadership Immersion Conference, and SAB. All of this while still homeschooling Stephen-Nicholas, keeping up with Sutycha and Suvan's school activities and work. I even undertook the task of bringing a nationally recognized multicultural sorority to campus and became a part of a local sorority called L.U.N.A.
These ladies (whom I will call sisters) have welcomed me into their group and together we have begun to bond and have come to know each other. We have our first meeting with one of our prospective sororities, Omega Phi Chi, later this coming week and we hope to hear from the other one, Mu Sigma Upsilon very soon as well.

I am also apart of an initiative to help bring together medical students, undergrad pre-meds, and high school students who want to become doctors, all of color, together with physicians and others to mentor and guide these young minds. We feel that as a people, African Americans aren't being adequately represented and seem to be excluded or weeded out because of race, once again. We feel that this has to stop and we need to be more proactive in grooming our future physicians towards their prospective medical careers. We seek to do this by teaching, mentoring, shadowing, and exposing these young ones to various people and opportunities they otherwise may not be privy to. Being an integral process in the formation of this group makes me feel very much alive and in tune with my community et al.

I was a bit worried that all of my extracurricular activities would negatively affect my studies and my home. For the most part, I was actually OK. The only thing that did suffer at home was my laundry and the cleanliness of my bedroom due to it being strewn with books, notebooks, and various stacks or stray papers. I studied hard and did my best to keep up with all of my assignments. I passed this semester with a 3.31 G.P.A. although I was shooting for a much higher grade.

Oh well.

Next semester will be even tougher. The boys have their CSAP testing and I'll have less to do but more to focus on, if that makes any sense. I have three very grueling classes that I will not accept anything less than an A in... nothing less. I cannot and will not fail. Period.

I will also do better in maintaining my home and marriage. I learned many lessons this year that will be applied in 2011.

More to come!!!!
